Renewals for hosting, domains and licences

Some items on your quotation are one off and some renew. Knowing which is which prevents an unpleasant surprise a year after launch.

What usually renews

  • Domain registration. Annual for most extensions. Malaysian .com.my and .my domains have their own registration rules and cycles.
  • Hosting. Billed annually or monthly depending on the plan.
  • SSL certificates. Where a paid certificate is used rather than a free one.
  • Licensed software. Premium themes, plugins and modules used in the build.
  • Third party services. Email sending, security scanning, backup services and similar.
  • Maintenance plans. Billed on their own cycle.

Where to see them

Your quotation shows the renewal frequency against each recurring item, and your handover document lists everything renewable with its date. Keep that document somewhere your team can find it.

How renewals are invoiced

We invoice ahead of the renewal date so there is time to pay before anything lapses. Pay before the due date, because renewals cannot be backdated.

Why lapses are serious

  • An expired domain takes your website and your business email offline, and after a grace period it can be registered by someone else.
  • Expired hosting takes the site down and, after a period, the data with it.
  • An expired SSL certificate makes browsers show a security warning to every visitor.
  • Expired licences stop plugin updates, which is a security exposure over time.

Price changes

Renewal pricing follows the provider. Domain registries, hosting providers and software vendors adjust their rates, and some price in foreign currency, so the MYR figure moves with the exchange rate. Any change is shown on the renewal invoice.

Cancelling

Tell us in writing before the renewal date. For domains, we can arrange a transfer to your own registrar account so you keep control of the name.

To check what is renewing and when, reply to your email thread or write to [email protected].
