Email hosting and web hosting are not the same thing

These two services share a domain name and nothing else. Understanding the split saves a lot of confusion when something breaks.

Web hosting

Web hosting serves your website. Visitors reach it because an A record points your domain at the web server. If web hosting has a problem, the site does not load. Email is unaffected.

Email hosting

Email hosting runs your mailboxes. Mail arrives because MX records point your domain at the mail server. If email hosting has a problem, messages bounce or do not arrive. The website keeps running perfectly.

Why this matters

When both stop at the same moment, the cause is almost always the shared layer: the domain expired, or the DNS zone was replaced. When only one stops, the fault is in that specific service. Telling us which of the two is affected in your ticket immediately narrows the diagnosis.

Choosing an email service

You have three practical options:

  • Dedicated business mail such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Best deliverability, proper mobile sync, large mailboxes, calendars and shared drives. Recommended for any business that lives in email.
  • Mail hosted alongside your site. Cheaper, adequate for low volume, but shares the server reputation and resources with the website.
  • Forwarding only. Addresses on your domain that redirect to an existing mailbox. Fine for a single contact address, poor for sending as your domain.

Deliverability

Whatever you choose, your domain needs SPF, DKIM and DMARC TXT records configured correctly, or your mail lands in spam folders. This is the single most common cause of "our emails are not reaching customers". It is a DNS configuration matter and we can set it up.

Marketing email

Bulk newsletters should go through a dedicated sending platform, not your business mailbox. Sending hundreds of identical messages from a normal mailbox damages your domain reputation quickly.

If you are deciding on an email setup, reply to your email thread or contact [email protected] and we will recommend an option.
